It’s that time of year again—time to look back on 2022. For the sixth time now, I have the opportunity to reflect on the year’s events at my own small business. And I have to say: a lot has happened again!
Where do we start? Looking at the annual calendar, the first thing that stands out is that there were hardly any off-site meetings in the first three months. What else was the reason for that? Oh right… COVID-19 had us in its grip, and things only gradually returned to normal. One positive takeaway for me from this period is that so much is now handled via video conferences—in my opinion, one of the standout developments of the pandemic era. This has made things much easier for everyone involved, and decision-making processes in projects have been significantly streamlined.
In terms of content, our focus has solidified in management consulting and the procurement of software solutions for public transportation. There was particular demand for software solutions for on-demand transportation, where we managed four different projects last year alone. However, the further development of ITCS solutions has also taken up a significant amount of our time. In this area, we had the opportunity to support one of the leading providers in the further development of its products, particularly with regard to the integration of zero-emission vehicles. In contrast, however, consulting for startups has decreased significantly, reflecting the trend of a lack of new business start-ups.
With traffic signal control, we have ventured into a completely new field. Previously known only marginally as a priority system for public transit, the old analog technology of the r09 telegram is now being converted to the V2X standard, thereby advancing the integration of traffic signal control into forward-looking technologies.
We were on the road as well. The highlight for all of us was undoubtedly Innotrans here in Berlin, which gave us a great opportunity to finally meet in person again and catch up.
What’s in store for next year? For one thing, we’ll be continuing some of our existing partnerships; the LSA issue, in particular, will remain a priority for us, and I’ll be reaching out to you often regarding this matter.
My favorite topic, on-demand transportation, is being further developed. Next year, we’ll focus in particular on how to integrate this sensibly into existing public transit services to ensure seamless passenger information. Personally, I’ve found this area to be too fragmented in the past, and given everything that lies ahead, we can’t leave it that way. And otherwise, we at geminiptc are also looking forward to all the new projects you still have up your sleeves. What’s on your mind, what’s on the table, and what still needs to be done urgently?
