Recap of Innotrans 2022

There it was—the first Innotrans in four years. And it was wonderful that we all saw each other again without a screen, face to face, and realized that we could discuss certain things so much faster and more easily. Since so much was going on for us, we’d like to take this opportunity to summarize all the topics we discussed there.

On-demand transportation

Hall 7.1.c was definitely the one where we knew nearly 100% of the exhibitors. All providers of on-demand solutions were represented here, along with their partner companies. This made it very easy for us to go from booth to booth and discuss the current status of individual companies and projects. It was nice to see that we had now implemented a project with almost every provider in some way.

Nevertheless, it was striking that none of the providers was able to offer a solution to one of the most pressing problems of the future: truly integrating and linking their systems with public transportation services. Passengers are still forced to first check the public transit schedule and then book the trip in the on-demand provider’s app. This cannot be the point; all the transit companies we work with expect true intermodal integration. This will be the key issue for the future, and one that we at geminiptc are currently working on as well.

It was interesting to note that the product developed by our client s.a.d. in Kassel for converting traffic signal control systems to V2X technology has generated a great deal of attention. s.a.d. is upgrading the old analog technology based on R09 telegrams to modern, state-of-the-art technology based on Wi-Fi. A major topic of discussion here was the immense effort required to retrofit the hardware. Markus Mahler from s.a.d. addressed this with a migration concept that allows old and new technology to continue operating together in parallel, so that the investment can be spread out over a long period of time. This was well received by both hardware and software manufacturers. We were particularly pleased that DB Regio, Germany’s largest bus operator, took up the topic directly and incorporated it into its considerations.

Optimo

With get Optimo, we also had a change management platform for large enterprises in our portfolio. Stephan Preuss was able to demonstrate this to a variety of companies. With the help of his SaaS solution, you can connect the right employees and decision-makers, work together to find the most effective solutions more quickly, and make decisions transparent for everyone involved. Increasing pressure to change, limited resources, and tight deadlines. Those who want to remain future-proof must tackle things faster, better, and more cost-effectively now. For example, by drastically shortening the lines of communication between employees and managers. This piqued the interest of many of the companies we spoke with, as it would help them better coordinate their own processes.

T-Systems

We have been partnering with T-Systems for nearly a year and a half. Together, we are working to tailor their technology offerings—ranging from traditional public transit applications to modern cloud systems—to the needs of transit companies and public authorities. In particular, the focus is on integrating zero-emission vehicles and on-demand services. AI-based passenger counting was certainly a key topic.

And other than that…

Phew, what else was there: Veomo, with its integrated display solution for passenger information systems. Awake Mobility, which offers vehicle analytics for buses. And, of course, all our long-standing partners in the fields of ITCS, passenger information, and ticketing, with whom we’ve been collaborating for years.

One particularly noteworthy meeting was with Frank Klingenhöfer, CEO of DB Regio. We were able to present our portfolio to him, and this immediately led to specific projects. So, once again: Thank you for this great meeting!

In summary, we can confidently say that our approach—which connects a wide range of technology providers in the public transportation sector through our network—has once again been very well received. This allowed us to provide our customers and their prospective partners with quick connections at Innotrans and to move projects forward.

If you are interested in our approach, our network, or specifically in the projects mentioned above, we would love to hear from you!
